The Need for Teaching Ecotourism

When the subject of teaching ecotourism comes up, people may give the person who brought up the subject a quizzical look. This is not because there is a feeling of condescension towards the subject but because it seems like an odd subject to teach. After all, what could possibly be the importance of teaching ecotourism to people who are not involved in the hotel and tourism trade?

Well, if a teacher is successful in presenting the true facts of the subject of ecotourism, then the quizzical looks will quickly disappear as people begin to realize the absolute seriousness of the issue. Hopefully, they will understand that ecotourism is not all about leisure, but also about properly dealing with common threats to the environment.

If one perpetuates teaching ecotourism to where the awareness level of the subject arises, then the teacher will be doing the world a great service. Of course, in order to do this, the instructor must properly convey the information so that the desired result is achieved.

Stressing Importance When Teaching Ecotourism

In order to make teaching ecotourism effective, it becomes critical that the instructor stresses the notion that ecotourism is a serious issue that requires serious attention. This is not to say that an instructor should bring a sense of alarmism with him towards the issue. Alarmism never works and will more than likely backfire if employed.

But if the instructor brings a firm approach to the subject matter and infuses into the instruction a notion that action is required to help promote environmental causes that are helpful for the greater good, then the process of teaching ecotourism will prove successful.

Avoiding Preaching When Teaching Ecotourism

Keep one thing in mind, teaching is not preaching. That is, the teacher must not climb on a soapbox and perform the duties of an advocate. This undermines the purpose of teaching and will ultimately lead to the audience turning against the instructor.

The classroom is not a place where an advocate can climb on a soapbox and subject his feelings towards a captive audience. Regardless of how good the instructors intentions are, such a heavy handed approach is ultimately self defeating.

If the instructor does teach the material properly and it is the material is properly absorbed by the students, then they will take it upon themselves to do the right thing and advocate ecotourism when the need arises. When they do this, they will greatly aid in the conservation of the environment and the teachers main purpose will have been achieved. Is that not the goal in the first place?

Ecotourism Network

There are a variety of different ways in which ecotourism can be bad for the environment, and if you want more information there are a variety of different options.

In the field, it has proven to be one of the most effective tools for long-term conservation of biodiversity when the right circumstances are present, and it is of special interest for its relationship with conservation, sustainability, and biological diversity. Ecolodges can be found through agencies that cater to ecotourism, or through methods of word of mouth. Is There a Definitive Ecotourism Policy? Economic benefits are the most direct and are seen in better employment and more income.

Thus, while ecotourism debates rage on, it is nevertheless quite clear that in spite of the many problems, there is hardly any denying the fact that ecotourism does in fact encourage powers that be into at least thinking about conserving nature, though opinions will certainly differ on what need to be protected, and how as well as for whose benefit.
These ecotourism projects are ample proof, if any were needed that if we really set our minds to defeating the prospect of extinction of wildlife and destruction of biodiversity then we have a chance of survival and minimizing those frightening thoughts of doom and gloom. It is also almost a custom to leave a tiny footprint when one visits such places. When economic benefits trickle down to local people, it allows, in theory at least, for the benefits to act as incentive to protect nature and also makes the locals take to behaviors that promote conservation rather than exploitation of natural resources. Another type of ecotourism is pro-poor tourism, which is a type that is set up in developing countries as a means to basically improve the local economy and assist people as best as possible. Such ecotourism damage can lead to harming the national parks, as also the tiny and exciting islands that are attracting eco-tourists who are very enamored by the unspoiled nature of these places. For example, if a park decides to have a nature walk aspect to it, paths will be cleared and some trees cut down to make way for the paths.

Hopefully, they will understand that ecotourism is not all about leisure, but also about properly dealing with common threats to the environment.
In addition, ecotourism in general teaches tourists about the characteristics, habitat as also the dangers that are affecting our natural resources including the wildlife. And, entertainment is not about nightlife and other manmade experiences; rather, you get to see the exciting as well as sometimes surprising animals in the wild in their natural settings. However, the main ecotourism policy is promoting awareness of the environment through allowing tourists to get up-close to nature. Over the years more and more damage has been done to the environment by humanity.
