Ecotourism damage Can Be Caused By Air Travel And Subsequent Emission Of Greenhouse Gases

The whole concept of ecotourism revolves around the need to remain friendly to your environment and even travel to far-off destinations should not do the kind of damage that it is doing such as producing greenhouse gases that is a result of air travel, especially when it is to remote and untouched parts of the world. Thus, in spite of our best efforts and lofty ideals there is a certain amount of ecotourism damage taking place and such damage has been the subject of debate at the Global Ecotourism Conference in Oslo in 2007.

Make Plans To Guide The Future Of Ecotourism

There is need to make suitable plans that will help guide the future of ecotourism, and when successful, will ensure that natures biodiversity is protected and conserved failing which it can lead to the undoing of all of the benefits of ecotourism.

To undo and even prevent ecotourism damage, there are even airlines that have been formed such as Nature Air that is based in Costa Rica which claims to be a zero net emitter of carbon dioxide thanks to investments that it made in reforestation projects that are going a long way in keeping the air clean.

Even though ecotourism is gaining in popularity; so much so, that it is growing at three times the rate of traditional tourism, there are yet concerns that this very growing popularity and consequent increased air traffic will be the cause of ecotourism damage through the emission of greenhouse gases.

Such ecotourism damage can lead to harming the national parks, as also the tiny and exciting islands that are attracting eco-tourists who are very enamored by the unspoiled nature of these places. Thus, the conference held in Oslo came up with a statement that stated that there was a need for responsible travel so that the environment is conserved and the welfare of local people kept uppermost in mind.

Furthermore, it is easy to see that the long distances one travels by air to reach these ecotourism destinations may in it be the cause of ecotourism damage albeit indirectly. The flip side is that if such ecotourism were to be denied, it would harm the economic well-being of such ecotourism hotspots and make the poor countries even poorer for lack of tourism.

So, it is easy to see that ecotourism can lead to its own undoing and that there is certainly a lot more that is needed to be done to ensure that we can come up with adequate solutions that will help negate the ecotourism damage that is at the present time taking place thanks to the increasing popularity of ecotourism itself.

Another of the negative effects of ecotourism is that some land may have to be stripped to make landing strips and which can result in destruction of nesting sites as well as threaten local water supply. As well in regards to the matter of what the problems are with ecotourism, as it stands now, ecotourism presents problems of its own and really cannot be seen as being a panacea for all the problems of the past. There is no doubting the fact that ecotourism has its fair share of advantages and also problems which mean that it is necessary to have well planned, developed as also managed ecotourism that will help generate jobs for locals and create income and many more opportunities for the locals. The evolution of ecotourism has been defined to date, but continues to be defined for the next generation of curious people to learn about. However overall, even after a thorough consideration of what the problems are with ecotourism, it is still one of the best ideas to emerge in global travel in a long time, and basically, as long as people are willing to pay to see where they live, and need food, guides and accommodations to do so, then locals will have every incentive necessary to protect and nurture their resources.

Want to go somewhere far away for an ecotourism vacation?
It also meant needing to coordinate between ecotourism providers and different municipalities as also governmental bodies and NGOs so that a viable network to sustain this form of tourism could be formed. And then, you still need to understand in which ways ecotourism may be becoming a problem and in which ways it is a good thing. Unless the tree is visibly dead, it is very much alive, and this action scars the tree. To some, this may not sound impressive because the notion that one would travel somewhere to harm the environment sounds like pure fiction. Such ecotourism debates are centered on the position that there is a blue-green environmental spectrum in which even nature has a basic economic value.

Such ecotourism debates raise the question that ecotourism has become a catch-all phrase to help market products and in the capitalist sense at least, cultures as well as societies are mere commodities that are to be consumed by external sources.
Consider the following: there are tours to Africa where irresponsibly hunting expeditions occur in severe violation of local hunting and conservation laws. In the late 1990s, communities realized that they could even start getting people to help them make things better. For those that know little about what ecotourism is, there is usually the question on whether or not people who say its a problem are right. This is because the more remote the place, the more interested people became in learning about the nature around them and how to preserve it. Is that not the goal in the first place? They realized people wanted more when it came to traveling.
