Learning About the Evolution of Ecotourism
Although ecotourism is a fairly new concept for many, it has actually been around and alive since the 1980s. In truth, it has been around longer than this, building up momentum until the term was officially recognized.
There is an entire story to tell about the evolution of ecotourism, and the tale is quite interesting in regard to what ecotourism actually means, and how far its come thus far. The timeline as mentioned before, dates back to the 1980s and tells its story all the way to the present day.
The 1980s
Little did people realize that this was the beginning of the path for the evolution of ecotourism. In the late 1980s ecotourism was more of a novelty than anything, with entrepreneurs taking a leap in what they saw as an opportunity to make some cash. They realized people wanted more when it came to traveling. They wanted to see nature, live peacefully and visit places theyd never been. So, foreigners purchased or leased land and called them ecolodges where accommodations were simple and natural. And this was known as the beginning of the evolution of ecotourism.
The 1990s
This is the time when communities and entrepreneurs realized the profitability in serving ecotourists. Ecolodges and ecotourism operators sprang up all over the place in more remote locations than ever before. This part of the evolution of ecotourism is the defining factor in what the word even means. This is because the more remote the place, the more interested people became in learning about the nature around them and how to preserve it.
In the late 1990s, communities realized that they could even start getting people to help them make things better. Places would create projects for ecotourists to complete when visiting, whether it was restoring a piece of land or planting very needed trees.
The Present Day
The evolution of ecotourism has been defined to date, but continues to be defined for the next generation of curious people to learn about. Because ecotourism hasnt been around too long and there havent been too many other areas of trying to save our lands, were at a great race with ourselves.
The present day represents everyone who looks to the future in trying to preserve our world and its resources. With too few people to help and because the issue has been neglected for so long, its a great race to the end in trying to inhabit ecotourism and programs like it.

But, with new concerns about our environment coming to the fore, there has been a gradual shift in position and rethinking has led to the beginning of ecotourism.
This will, in some cases, draw a certain level of sneers from those who here the term. Usually, when ecotourism is mentioned the images that come to mind will be that of progressive adults who are weaving their progressive causes with plain, old fashioned vacation time. Also, be aware that some websites might not provide the most accurate information. Unless the tree is visibly dead, it is very much alive, and this action scars the tree.
Excursions to watching birds is something we may all be familiar with and this is just one good example of what ecotourism is all about.
There are a number of ecotourism debates that try to highlight the less than satisfactory state of affairs one experiences in ecotourism because such people feel that living in a capitalist society does not go hand in hand with doing much positive things for ecotourism and that not enough is being done with regard to conserving nature and providing significant benefits as well as conserving the host nations revenue and natural resources. Also, such ecotourism grants may generally not be given to undergraduate expeditions and there should also be strong emphasis on field work for conservation applications, and the grant is usually given to those that bring new skills and conservation education opportunities to the area where ecotourism is taking place. This part of the evolution of ecotourism is the defining factor in what the word even means. There are many businesses too that are engaging them in construction of camps and lodges as also trails and tours that facilitate the eco-tourist, and a continent that is particularly engaged in ecotourism is Africa mainly because of the many numbers of game parks and reserves that are ideally suited for ecotourism. So, is it a Problem, or Not?

Another exciting ecotourism destination is Honduras, the country that raises images of fields filled with fruits that ripen beneath tropical suns and which is a fast emerging ecotourism destination in the world. Ecotourism, if we are to go by the World Tourism Organizations information is the fastest growing market within the growing global tourism space, and ecotravel is being opted for as an alternative to mass tourism by more and more people worldwide. There are more facts revealed by these ecotourism statistics which shows that the typical eco-tourist is aged between thirty-five and fifty-four years of age and of these, it is believed that as many as eighty-two percent have graduated from college, and are more than ready to pay more than what average tourists pay, which is about twelve hundred dollars for a trip. The Rufford Small Grants is available to anyone that hopes to get funded for his or her project subject to a limit of about ten thousand dollars. |
